Since earliest days I have been hugely admiring of the graphic art traditions of Northern Europe, China and Japan. Initially, my drawings were simply the basis for editions of lithographs and not for sale or exhibition as unique one-offs - indeed, once editioned, the hand-drawn originals were usually destroyed. Eventually I abandoned this procedure and these days printmaking comprises a small part of my practice and output. I came to recognize that the life in the line drawn as nearly to perfection as possible is palpable, it cannot be eliminated and nor can it be reproduced.
