I am particularly attracted to the extraordinary properties of glass as a material, which can be quite transparent, translucent or completely opaque. Etching allows for what appears to be the purest overlaying of one ‘surface’ on another (in actuality, subsequent dips in acid and increasing depth of bite). The resulting image can seem to be architecturally substantial, almost graphically two-dimensional, or like melting ice - depending on the quality of light and its source. Glass also provides the opportunity for a dynamic yet unselfconscious interplay between the image and the commonplace.
